chero michel
bio
Since roaring on the scene in 2003 with her EP, "Meant to Be", the LA based songstress has captivated fans and critics alike with her smooth, inventive sound. Her currently untitled album has already created a huge buzz and is scheduled for release summer 2006. In this album, she opens up by telling stories of happiness and pain while weaving an intricate web vocally. Her sound leans more towards soul but she serves a blast of musical styles combining r&b, hip-hop and jazz.

Chero Michel was adopted at three weeks old and thrust into a musical family. From days spent in church learning to sing traditional hymns, to childhood enrollment in schools for the performing arts, she was unintentionally building the foundation for a life of music.

She grew up in Milwaukee where during her educational experience she was involved in many school productions. Having found a true love for performing she chose to major in dance in college. Through the dance department at The University of Nevada – Las Vegas she would find work for various dance projects. This was practical, but while she majored in dance, she remained smitten by singing.

Chero Michel moved to New York to work on her craft while continuing her dance training. In New York she worked with producers and recorded some of her first tracks. Eventually Chero Michel bought her own recording equipment. She produced tracks while allowing herself enough independence to let her vocal style and sound develop and be it's own.

Still her music was largely a secret. Her work was as a dancer, whether rehearsing with the company or teaching. Recording demos and "making beats" in her apartment were done in her free time. But that all changed after she did her first show.

Singing live exceeded the joy of dance. And the audience response made things clear. The support got her started on her first, six songs EP called "Meant to Be". The EP did well despite her hesitancy of it coming across "amateurish". She sold copies of the EP over the internet and at shows.

Chero Michel came to LA to independently promote her music and perfect her sound by performing at local clubs. She also became active in the community by starting a company called Huffman Performing Arts (HPA), which gives children in LA and surrounding areas exposure to dance and music.

Chero Michel's commitment to her career and audience is borne out of her desire to perform. This is a singer whose powerful yet smooth voice stands out with intoxicating intensity that will captivate you.
